Own up!

Before you read this, a quick side note. I found an old note from way back when I decided to start blogging and despite how crass it came out, it's reflective of my younger self, as well as my growth as a person. So, for better or for worse, take all of this with a grain of salt. Having said that, enjoy.......  Warning: the opening paragraphs of the following post contains rather graphic elements of an overt sexual theme, which in all fairness, is being used as a platform for an entirely different topic all together. Therefore, I urge anyone who is "sensitive" to stop reading and get out of here right now..............are you still here...........*sigh, fine, but don't say I didn't warn ya......  Among his "many accolades", Adolf Hitler was also a monumentally perverted sexual deviant. Now, I make this claim based solely, and rather regrettably, on an article that I had once read in FHM magazine, many many moons ago. I should point out that this art...

What Trickles Down…

The itsy-bitsy spider Went up the waterspout Down came the rain and Washed the spider out Out came the sun And dried up all the rain Now the itsy-bitsy spider Went up the spout again Considering recent events and the topic for this piece, a nursey rhyme is probably not the best way to start. However, it seems to be as appropriate a beginning as any. Moreover, it is, in my opinion, an apt metaphor for the current state of things. For those of you that haven’t noticed the protests, riots, looting, pandemonium and general insanity that’s been flooding the streets and all the newsfeeds, on Monday, May 25 th , an African American by the name of George Floyd was arrested outside of a deli in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. According to sources, an employee of the deli that Floyd has visited dispatched the police and had called for his arrest. What followed was Floyd being restrained, handcuffed and forced to the ground, chest down, where an officer was seen (and recorded) pre...

Corona; not just a "passable" brewski

The problem that I seem to have whenever I sit down to write one of these is that I always have no idea how I should start. Given the current situation involving you-know-what, I was hesitant in using my usual brand of not-so-insightful, yet not-so-insensitive humor. Then again, I think we could all benefit from a brief time-out from all the doomsday rhetoric and pseudo-suicidal disregard that a lot of people have shown (I’ll get to that in a minute) and start this off with........there ain’t nothing like an old-fashioned crisis to bring out the best and the worst in people!  So, we’re in a global pandemic.Granted, things are starting to look better, but it was pretty rough for a while. Entire economies had grinded to a halt. Medical facilities were filling up faster than ever. Hoarding of supplies had become almost second nature (I mean....toilet paper? Seriously?). And social distancing was, and still is, an almost enforceable decree (for the record, I’m not arguing against ...

Does anyone   know the story about the scorpion and the frog? The story goes that once upon a time, a scorpion was trying to cross a river, but couldn’t because it couldn’t swim. So, it comes across a frog and convinces it to carry him across. Half way there, the frog feels a sting on his back and is paralyzed. Realizing that he’d be stung, he scream at the scorpion that they both were going to die and asked why he stung him. The last thing he heard before drowned was “because it’s my nature”. Sure, that shit’s haunting and chilling, but you gotta admit, we can all relate. I start with this because of the impending holidays, i.e. Christmas and new years. Of course, people all over the world are either emptying their savings accounts to buy gifts for folks that will probably end up in the back of an attic or going out and getting drunk to forget the holidays. If you’re like me, then you fall under the latter. In my case, there’s good reason, but in order to explain that, I...

Excelsior

Did we ever live in an age of heroes? I’m curious about if there ever was such a time. Individuals that contributed and impacted in such a way that it altered our perceptions of our potential and fallacy. As I write this, I find myself wondering if anyone is even that capable. But, I recently learned a new word....or rather, discovered the definition of a word that I’d heard repeatedly over the years. Excelsior . Excelsior , a Latin word meaning “ever upward” or “still higher”. Commonly known as the official motto of the U.S. state of New York, it’s come to be associated with another individual; Stanley Martin Lieber, a.k.a. Stan Lee. I’m not behind on current events. Personal matters have been the reason for this delayed pseudo-eulogy. But hey, better late than never, right? Still though, since there have been so many statements made about this man, I’ve decided to go a different route. Instead of speaking about who he was to me, I’ll be talking about what he’s given me. I’m...
