Anger........ain't it grand?

" I wish the whole world had but a single throat and I had my hands around it". Those were the words of Carl Panzram, an individual with a exceptional & almost unreal capacity for aggression, unbiased & undiscriminating aggression. This was instrumental as he became notorious as one of the notorious serial killers in the U.S. during the late 19th and early 20th century, beating, raping, sodomizing & killing countless men & women, from the west coast US, as far down as south america. What makes him unqiue from others of such depravity is not his staggering body count, but his motivation. Where as most killers were sexually motivated by the sight of death & destruction, he was fueled by the carnage for it's own sake. He simply hated enough to kill. And was set upon that path by his unending anger.
Opening with that would make one wonder as to whether or not I have gone off the deep end or am I even immortalizing the memory of a killer. I am doing neither. Instead, I'm am posing a serious question as to what is it about the human nature that cause us to behave in such destructive manners?? Sure, as a civilization, we have accomplished more than any other of god's creations, but at the same time, we have cause more destruction to ourselves & those around us as well.
But the basis of all this is anger. Anger to ourselves, anger towards others, anger towards the set of circumstances that make up our existance. And this anger can grow from a number of rather bitter fruits. From depression, frustration, resentment, discontent & so many more. I've seen men destroy themselves & those around them because of these aforementioned things.
Anger, sadly, is a by-product in the pursuit of happiness. It occurs when we least expect it & can do so much harm before we even realize that we are in that state to begin with. What is worse than that is when it hurts those we love & those we strive so hard to protect, cherish & just be around.
I'm not suggesting that we all mellow out, become buddists, leave the material world & just seek enlightenment, for very few of us have the required capacity & even fewer of us can ever really do that. Instead, what I am asking is that one should just stop & question him/herself before reacting in anger. Ask yourself what is it that is driving me to do this??
Ultimately, we will always be a race of violence. We will always lash out when threatened, fight back when feeling oppressed, destroy when we see the slightest vulnerability in our enemies. Whether or not you do is truly up to you. What is asked however is whether or not the price of such action is worth it?? Is it worth alienating, hurting & even destroying those relationships, just to satisfy some aggressive appetite??
No man, or woman, has ever profitted from allowing themselves to express their anger & all associated feelings through sheer, blunt force. It profits you nothing to do that.
Don't hurt those you love. Don't hurt those you hate. Don't hurt yourself.
